Namibia is mainly farming land. Since herding nomads immigrated about 2000 years ago with sheep and goats from the south, farming became an increasingly important way of life in this dry part of Africa. About 300 years ago Bantu speaking tribes from the north and east of Africa settled as planters and herders in Namibia, displacing the last hunter and gatherer societies into remote areas useless for farming needs. About 120 years ago European settlers introduced new farming methods, new crops and stock breeds; introducing gardening, dairy, wool and fur production, ostrich farming, irrigation and horse breeding.
Modern Namibia still accommodates these different farming industries and has welcomed new ones like grapes, olives, dates, fish, oysters and game. Namibia’s diversity extends to farming, where very traditional tribal farming systems in communal areas co-exist with modern (but African) production in the so-called commercial farmland.
We would like to introduce you to this varied farming under the warm African sun in a dry desert like country, where everything depends on the seasonal rainfall. We will take you on an either one or two week tour through Namibia. Although our country is about four times bigger than the UK, you will still see most of the different types of farming during your tour.
  The tour includes excursions to:
· Mbanderu, Herero, San or Damara cattle herders on their communal or commercial land
· An experimental Devils Claw plantation (the Devils Claw is a popular wild plant used in both traditional modern medicine)
· A communal or commercial sheep farm in the Kalahari desert
· a wool weaving mill
· Omaheke Region, know as the cattle country
· There are the possibilities of visiting an old ostrich farmer in the south to find out about the challenges of ostrich farming in the desert, and a date plantation.

Our accommodation includes campsites, wild camping in the open, traditional huts and, where possible, bungalows.
